It is officially the tenth of February 2015, Nito started Kim's high thc oil on February 4th. Since then there has been no hand biting at all nor aggression toward others. There have been only three tantrums that did not escalate beyond intense crying that were easily redirected by alternatives if the desired item was not available. There have been no mysterious tantrums where he refused to communicate the source of the problem. Since last week he has been talking even more and for the first time he said "sunflower seeds."
I am always realistic about progress and I survive setbacks by taking good care of myself. I plan to continue trying to drop a little green tea in his mouth to help prevent tolerance.

Cinthianne Proves Unschooling Works
One day she was being a bit mean to her brother, so I told her to give him a kiss. Nito heard the word kiss and kissed her. She told me she could not kiss him because she was eating blueberries. I told her to eat her blueberries and let her be. About five to ten minutes later Cinthianne told me she wanted to kiss Nito and she did.
Nito Eats Cake!!!! Thanks to Kim Morera's Oil
Nito had been going through this horrible, very long phase where foods that most people enjoy disgusted him, even cake and sweets. This is when I dared ventured into the concept of unschooling diet. I worried that my former very strict attitude about food had done this to him. He no longer had the curiosity for food he once had. So I started letting him eat whatever he wanted, but I always make sure there are plenty of healthy options available. I talk to both of my kids about food and herbs but ultimately I try not to control their decisions. I certainly do not offer them sweets normally, but if they see or hear of something I let them try it.
After weeks of letting Nito try anything he wanted, even if he wasted it, Nito started choosing more healthy foods. On his sister's birthday, Nito was on Kim Morera's cannabis oil. He did choose to eat cake, and for us, that was huge, because just weeks ago he would have vomited at the sight of it. He later requested sunflower seeds with a button on his iPad and for the first time ever he actually said "sunflower seeds" repeatedly. We were out of them as Whole Foods put a temporary recall on his brand due to salmonella, but he accepted to eat oranges instead! Before, when Nito could not have what he wanted, he always threw a fit.

Nito Takes a Picture on Cannabis
As is legally required for all Washington state cannabis patients, Nito needed photo ID. I was very nervous about this, not only because Nito is difficult and throws tantrums, but also because he does not enjoy waiting rooms. I called the licensing place and discussed my situation, and arranged to have my husband watch my 3 year old. I am an unschooling parent which means I respect my son's passions whatever they may be. My son loves his iPad for all types of learning and fun activities, so I brought it along. Before cannabis, the iPad did not prevent tantrums in public. But this day, unschooling and cannabis came together. The man I had spoken to asked me to come to his booth right away with my son. He processed everything and got my son straight to camera area. My son was so calm that he did not even need me to hold his hand. He kept his iPad in his hands and I stood next to him so he could take a picture. My son actually looked up and smiled, and it was just in time for the camera lady to snap a great picture!
Nito's ER Trip
So yesterday Nito developed a more intense episode of nausea and we were not sure what caused it. My husband blamed the cannabis and told me it was not working and we had to stop it. As I stated I am a medical cannabis patient. I was under the effect of the cannabis when my husband said these things. Instead of seeing him as cruel or closed minded I saw it as his unknowingly immature way of finding out how I feel about whether cannabis is helping our son, and what we needed to do about it.
I reminded my husband that I was turned away for ABA therapy, that our son was in school for years on big promises and now he hates it, how no one anywhere has helped us except for the cannabis community.
I told him all things need time and that I had seen plenty of indication that it was helping him, and that I should start documenting our success. I told him we could give up as he suggested. I would return to my intense headaches, reflux, moodiness, etc. My son, we would have to send him back to school against his will and he would likely have to be admitted at some point. He was too aggressive.
We took him to ER, told them he was on cannabis, and the nurse said "good for you. Sometimes that's the only thing that works." She did not believe cannabis had anything to do with his vomiting. She gave him an anti-nausea med that you simply stick in the mouth and it absorbs super fast on moisture. We walked away from the experience with more trust from my husband in what we are doing (he and I don't even drink so cannabis freaked him out, he knows nothing about it).
My son normally will try to escape ER by running away, but he slept thru the entire visit. Normally he does not fall asleep easily let alone sleep in public with all the lights. This has never ever happened before.

Nito's Cannabis/Unschooling Intro
Nito started prescription cannabis in October of 2014. He started unschooling not too long before. At the time that we were awaiting an appointment for authorization, Nito was randomly attempting to smack me in the head and face. He would also have episodes of uncontrollable laughter which would end with him attempting to smack me in the face. He bit his hands very hard repeatedly and refused to take a rattle or toy to bite instead. He would attempt to bite me if I tried to get him to bite a rattle, and then he would smack himself with the rattle and throw it. His tantrums were explosive and he refused to eat most foods to the point of gagging, and he refused supplements. When I brought medical cannabis to my home for the first time, my son, curious, wanted to try it, and has liked it ever since. He did however have a very stubborn way of ingesting it that made me doubt he was getting the full benefit, and we could not change him. He refused to eat edibles or foods with oil placed on them, he wanted it directly on his tongue. I tried to follow the dispensary's advice on administering on gums and under tongue, but it was hit or miss in terms of getting my son to not resist.
I did not document daily my first few months giving him cannabis, but during that time we saw major improvements in important areas. I persisted in believing that cannabis needed lots of time to help him. I now begin to record my journey, not always daily as I lack the time. I am also affected by Asperger's syndrome and have migraines, cluster headaches, ice pick headaches, wilkin's ekbom disease, arthritis, acid reflux and anxiety. I am now a medical cannabis patient and my success in treating my son seems to highly depend on treating my own Asperger's syndrome, which I have never been given help for.
